Getting ready for that holiday road trip to visit the family? Peachtree Movers want to help you keep your trip as stress free as we keep your moves! You've got your tunes, your snacks and your gifts ready to go. Before you start that engine make sure your car is equipped with an emergency roadside kit. Flat tires and icy roads happen at the worst possible moments and can leave you stranded on the side of cold empty road with nothing but old candy wrappers. Oh, no! Emergency roadside kits can be purchased online, or you can assemble your own at home. Since car space is limited, here is a list of essential items to include in your kit:
  • Water – one gallon per person
  • Food – non-perishable items
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Jumper cables
  • Set of tire chains
  • Multipurpose tools like a screwdriver or knife
  • Emergency blanket
  • Extra fluids for your car, including 2 quarts of motor oil, a gallon of water and a funnel
  • Small fire extinguisher
  • Road flares
  • Map(s) of the area
  • WD-40
  • Bright cloth or emergency road sign to display in your window in case of trouble
  • First aid kit (should include extra supply of needed medications)
  • Sanitation and personal hygiene items (toilet paper and wipes)
  • Umbrella or rain gear
Also, consider the needs of your passengers. Include specific items that could come in handy such as:
  • Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc.)
  • Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
  • Games and activities for children
  • Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
Be sure you have a spare tire and a jack, and that you know how to use it! Moving in Georgia? Here are a few tips to make the tough cleaning easy.

Peachtree movers know cleaning can be one of the biggest chores of a move. After you have packed up the last box it’s time to get to work on making your old place shine for the next tenants. If your renting this is extra important so you get a full return on your security deposit. Once you are done doing the usual mopping, vacuuming and wiping down of all surfaces fine tune your cleaning project with Peachtree Movers helpful moving-out cleaning tips:

Stained Tub?
Instead of using harsh chemicals to clean your stained tub grab your cream of tartar, baking soda, and lemon juice. Combine equal amounts to make a paste. Drop paste onto the stains and gently rub in with your fingers or a cloth. Allow the paste to sit for 30 minutes and then rinse with warm water. This should do the trick!

Dirty Chandelier?
Pick up a pair of white cotton gloves. Keep one dry and dampen the other with some glass cleaner. With your damp glove, wipe each prism with the damp glove and dry them with other glove! Cleaning can be  fancy!

Dirty Mirrors, Chrome & Porcelain?
Vodka.  Use a little on a cleaning cloth to add shine to glass, chrome or porcelain.

Dirty Blinds?
Old socks! Put those socks to work. First mix equal parts of warm water and vinegar in a bowl. Slip one old sock over your hand, dip it in the mixture bowl and wipe each individual slat with sock. Rinse after each slat. It is also helpful to have a second old, dry, sock to wipe down the blinds after cleaning them.

Once your old place is ready to go, have Peachtree Movers in Atlanta Georgia do the heavy lifting. Call us for a free moving quote at 404-355-8877 or visit us online at www.peachtreemovers.com

Wondering what the best approach to moving appliances is? Peachtree Movers can help!

Appliances are among the most expensive items you’ll have to move. Taking the time to prepare them for moving is the best way to keep them in tip-top shape.
Peachtree movers will help with preparing your appliances for moving, but if you decide to do it yourself, here’s a step by step guide to assure their safety and yours during the move:

How to move Refrigerators and Freezers
  • Start emptying your fridge and freezer at least a few days in advance of moving day.
  • Dispose of or consume perishables, and empty the refrigerator completely.
  • Clean all surface thoroughly, and leave the fridge and freezer doors open to air it out and prevent mildew and odors.
  • If the fridge has an ice maker, disconnect the water line and let it drain, and empty the ice and water reservoirs
  • Remove all interior racks and shelves and wrap them together for the move.
  • Vacuum the back and top of the fridge, chances are they have accumulated some dust
  • The day of the move, you can store light items like blankets, pillows or stuffed animals inside (place them in a garbage bag first). Tape all drawers and doors shut, and wrap it for transport.
  • Have Peachtree Movers haul the refrigerator. Because of their size and shape, refrigerators are difficult to move, and you risk injury and damages if you attempt it yourself.

How to move Stoves
  • Clean the stove thoroughly before the move. Grease from the stove can leave difficult to remove stains on anything it touches
  • Remove all interior racks, moving or removable parts, like burners and knobs, and store them together separately
  • Have someone qualified disconnect and cap off the gas line.
  • Tape the oven door closed for transport.

Time to move your Dishwasher
  • When moving a dishwasher, the main thing is to dry it completely ahead of the move.
  • Start a few days ahead of the move by disconnecting the hoses and drying them thoroughly.
  • Clean the inside and leave it open for a few days to help with the drying.

How to move your Washing Machine and Dryer
  • Start by disconnecting the washer’s water line and allowing the hoses to drain.
  • Clean the inside and leave it open for a few days, until it dries completely.
  • Read manufacturer’s instructions on how to secure down the drum. If you don’t have them handy, you may be able to locate them online. Also, there are washer kits available for purchase for securing the drum for transport.
  • Clean your dryer (lint screen, surfaces) and have a professional disconnect the gas and cap off the gas line if you have a bass dryer
  • Washers and dryers are not just expensive, but also difficult to haul. Peachtree can make it easy and help secure and transport your washer your washer.

Peachtree movers would like all major appliances properly prepared before your move. That way, they can safely carry, load and deliver them to the new destination. Preparing your appliances for moving in advance will save time and stress come moving day.

Peachtree Movers Do's and Don'ts Make Your Next Move a Easy One.

Here are some definite Do’s and Don’ts from Peachtree Movers for your next Atlanta move.

DOs:

DO have a layout plan for the new space prior to move day
DO measure your furniture to ensure it fits in the new space
DO use boxes with lids – you want to be able to stack everything and a lidless box makes that difficult
DO tape all cardboard boxes – you want the box to be sealed
DO label the top and sides of each box
DO disassemble any furniture when possible to save room on the truck
DO label your disassembled furniture or tape instructions to it for easy re-assemble
DO pack light items (pillows/blankets) in large boxes
DO use suitcases and garment bags to pack clothes
DO account for traffic time during move – calculate approximate traffic with Georgia’s State’s DOT 511

DON’Ts:

DON’T put items from several rooms into the same box – stay more organized with separate boxes for each room
DON’T use boxes without a lid – you want to be able to stack on the truck
DON’T use duct tape – use packing tap
DON’T pack heavy items (like books/pictures) in a large box that will become too heavy
DON’T book your move for the end of the month when it is the busiest (although we can fit you in!)

Use Peachtree Movers Moving Checklist To Make Your Next Move a Breeze.

We Love Moving! With our checklist you will too. Our checklist is specifically designed for use with the excellent, on time service of Peachtree Movers. Sure you can use it with other moving companies but your results may vary.

Here are our favorite tips (even the obvious ones) for you in one handy checklist:

  • Unplug all appliances and electronics that are moving. Have a plumbing professional disconnect washers, dryers and water lines from refrigerators.
  • Label boxes on top and sides clearly. Use new boxes for heavy items (they have more strength and integrity).
  • Have clearly defined names for bedrooms such as Master, Daughter’s Room, Bobby’s room and make sure boxes are labeled with their destination.
  • Change your address here is the link to the official USPS site.
  • Get medical, vet and school records in order.
  • Order new utilities and disconnect current ones.
  • Take apart outdoor furniture and playhouses (Not feeling handy? We can do this for you, call for a quote).
  • Figure out meals for the day of and days surrounding your move (pizza?)
  • Make a “Do Not Move” box and this is where items you will need to survive in your new home should go. Pack all prescriptions, toiletries, clothes for several days, pet food, contacts and other necessities. Act as though you are going on a trip for several days and pack accordingly.
  • Make arrangements for pets and children on moving day (you will have less worries if they are not underfoot and in harm’s way).
  • Pack personal valuables like jewelry, watches, wallets, cash and check books and transport in your vehicle.
  • Use up as much of your refrigerated foods prior to move day (get a cooler for the rest).

Getting ready for moving day is exciting. Let us take some of the stress out of your move by helping you get and stay organized with our checklist. Are There Things I Shouldn’t Pack For A Move?

Peachtree Movers Can Move Anything! Almost. There are a few items we know will be better off if they stay with you, and items that we just can’t transport. Here is the Peachtree Movers list of what not to pack for moving day.

1. VOLATILE CHEMICALS

Of particular note are volatile or otherwise sensitive chemicals. This is always important but perhaps most vital to take note of this during the warmer months. Keep them in the cabin of your car, and not in the trunk. This also goes for:

• Nail Polish Remover
• Pesticides
• Motor Oil
• Ammunition
• Batteries
• Cleaning Fluids
• Fertilizer
• Bleach

Volatile chemicals may be best dealt with by recycling them or giving them to a friend.

2. PLANTS

Some people are just as attached to their plants as they are to their pets and they need to carry them wherever they go. While we are as careful with plants as with any other of your belongings, we must tell you that if something happens to your plant, there is not much that can be done if the plant perishes. So, we advise that you carry your plants with you in a separate vehicle. The plants will likely do better in an open car than in the back of our luxurious moving truck, and you will be happier knowing that your precious living friends are picked up and placed down precisely where you desire.

3. ARTWORK AND ELECTRONICS

If you have artwork or televisions, we need to caution you when attempting to move them. Special boxes for artwork are recommended and televisions should be packed in their original packing material. Let us know how you wish to proceed with these items and we will take care of you.

4. HEIRLOOMS AND PRICELESS ITEMS

If you have items that are of extreme sentimental value or not replaceable it is highly recommended that you transport these items yourself. Examples would be money, jewelry, heirlooms, coins, high value artwork, etc.

5. HANDGUNS, RIFLES, AND AMMUNITION

These are items that you want to transport yourself as well. Please be sure that you empty your gun safes before we move them.

That’s it. We can move just about anything else and enjoy recounting stories of some of the crazy things we've been asked to move in staff meetings. Call Peachtree Movers today to schedule your next move or to get a free quote 404-355-8877.

The 5 Questions You NEED to Ask Before Hiring a Mover

The entire moving process can be long, complicated, and stressful, so the last thing you want to worry about is hiring an unqualified, unprofessional moving company to move you to your new home. Peachtree Movers want to make your move stress free; here are 5 questions to ask moving companies to make sure your move goes smoothly.  These questions will allow you to easily identify great companies over other companies that may cut corners to keep their prices low.

To help, we've supplied Peachtree Mover’s answers to each question.

1.) How do you select your employees?

Peachtree Movers has an intensive interview process, complete with full background checks to insure each candidate will make a successful mover. We also demand more than just athleticism and good backgrounds – moving can be very stressful so we hire interpersonally savvy people who can maintain great attitudes in the midst of challenging situations.

2.) If there’s a problem during the move, who will be handling it? Which department, individual, or a third party?

The Moving Quote Specialist Peachtree places in charge of moves are experienced, expert movers who have received extensive training which can often lead to the proper handling of claims right on the spot, as they happen. However, if a problem needs further attention, Peachtree Movers have a highly trained, in-house Quality Control Department that professionally and diligently handles every type of claim that comes in. In most cases, claims can be handled on the phone or in person by a Field Representative.

3.) Are you (your company) a member of the American Moving and Storage Association, The Better Business Bureau, or GAMA, the Georgia movers association? Are you a certified Pro Mover?

Not only is Peachtree Movers a part of the AMSA, but we were recognized by them on several occasions. Peachtree Movers are members of the Better Business Bureau, GAMA, the Georgia movers association, and we are a certified Pro Mover.

4.) Does your company offer secure storage?

Peachtree Movers offer secure, fully insured Climate Managed storage options. Peachtree Mover’s storage comes with a detailed inventory list for easy access to specific items in storage.

5.) What makes you different from all the other movers?

Peachtree Mover’s have been a leader in the Georgia moving industry because of our intense focus on customer service, the athleticism of the crews we send out on jobs, and our years of experience. Each member of your moving crew: packer, driver, local mover, or long distance mover, is an experienced expert.

How To Hire The Right Moving Company In Georgia

Hiring the right movers will save you stress, money, and your back!

First and foremost we’d like to suggest you hire us, Peachtree Movers. We have been successfully moving Georgia state residents for over 35 years and we love what we do. However, for due-diligence here are a few tips from the experts to help you find the best movers.

1. Shop around and get multiple quotes from different moving companies. This will help you find the best mover for your situation (which at the end of your research might just be us!)

 2. The cheapest moving company may not be the best choice. While most of the professional moving industry abides by federal and state laws, unfortunately there are still a few companies out there quote low and add on the extras after the move. Review the movers BBB rating to help you decide.

3. Call for an in-home estimate. The best moving companies will gladly come to visit you and assess your home to provide you with an accurate quote.

4. Make sure your moving company has the license and insurance it needs to move you legally. This one is more important than you might think, making sure your mover is legal and a member of the GAMA Georgia movers association will protect you if any issues arise.

After you've done your research you should have no problem making an educated decision on hiring your next mover. We would love to be your next mover, call us for a free quote today at 404-355-8877 or visit us online at www.peachtreemovers.com

Clean out everything! Including but not limited to
Garage
Attic
Basement
Closets
Cabinets

Step 2:
Organize all the great stuff you are getting rid of into one of three categories:
Donate

Step 3:
Plan a garage sale party.  Ask friends and family to participate so you have plenty of items for sale and help with the customers.
Go to the bank and stock up on change for your customers.  Many people make a quick stop at the ATM before shopping, which means lots of twenty dollar bills.  Be prepared!

Step 4:
Signs!
Create signs that are bright and visible with legible handwriting.  Use directional arrows on signs to help your shoppers find you.
Post on Facebook, Craigslist, and Twitter.  Use email for friends/neighbors that aren’t on Social Media.

Make sure all items are clean and in working order.
Hang your clothing when possible.
Coffee and doughnuts? Why not!

Should You Ask For Help Moving? Peachtree Movers Say Absolutely!

Moving can be an overwhelmingly stressful time, there are just so many small details. Did you pick up your dry cleaning, return those Redbox movies, cancel your gym membership, grab the mail, change your address, and transfer your utilities? The list of things to do when moving goes on and on. Our goal at Peachtree Movers is to be the least stressful move possible, so take a tip from us and remember when moving that sometimes you need to delegate and ask for help.

Hiring reputable movers will certainly take the stress out of moving day, but the stress that builds up during the moving process before moving day is where friends and family can really help out.
Let your movers do the heavy lifting and your friends help with the packing, cleaning, etc.  One idea is to have a packing party. You can make quick work of the hard work and have fun at the same time.

  • Let people know what time the party is, and let them know that you would be happy to have their help for however long they can stay. Fifteen minutes, an hour, it's all good. And, even if they don't help, sometimes it's just nice to have the company.
  • Provide plenty of newspaper, boxes, markers and tape.
  • Even kids can join in; they can pack books, non-breakables and soft goods.
  • Pizza is a traditional moving food but anything you can eat quickly and out of hand is good. Beer is nice and Champagne makes it festive.
  • Upbeat music keeps the energy up. (Time for a playlist!)
  • Don't forget the pump soap. Dust can make some folks itchy and newspaper quickly dirties your hands. Also good to have on hand: hairbands, bobby pins and elastics for people with long hair, books that haven't been moved in a while — and other items may be unexpectedly dusty, wet wipes can help.
  • Be clear about what you need packed; have stuff separated before people come and set them to specific tasks.

Even if you can do it all, sometimes a little help goes a long way! Call us for a free quote at 404-355-8877 or visit us at www.peachtreemovers.com for more helpful tips.

Need More Storage? You May Have More Space Then You Know.

First things first, get rid of your clutter. Now that you have, do you still need extra storage? If you do, here are a few tips:

  • Get creative with your space, and set it up for what you really need. Most rooms can have double uses, using a dish cabinet with extra drawers for your office supplies, for example.

  • Make use of your walls. Hooks can be just right for hanging up coats and purses taking up space. Another idea is to hang tote bags on the wall to organize your loose papers.

  • Utilize the space you have. Dressers can be for more than clothes, and use the age old extra space trick and raise up your bed to slide storage boxes under it.

  • Shelves can be your best friend. Install shelving units high above entry ways for a great way to display your books or trophies while keeping them out of the way.

  • Opt for furniture with storage space. An ottoman or a coffee table that opens up for storage is a great way to find extra space.

We hope these tips help you find some extra storage in your home. If you've run out of space, consider choosing a storage company. Peachtree Movers in Atlanta can give you all the extra space you need and keep your belongings safe. Call us for a free quote today at 404-355-8877 or visit us online at www.peachtreemovers.com

Four Tips For a Stress free Move With Kids

Moving to a new home, apartment, or city is usually filled with anticipation and excitement, adults look forward to it. Kids on the other hand need the support and patience of mom and dad to enjoy the move.

Families with kids usually move for the benefit of the children. Larger house, yard, better schools, these are all reasons for kids to get excited. However, leaving everything they know behind can bring on feelings of anxiety, fear, and cause poor school performance, or sleeping issues and other stress related symptoms.

To help your child get past these feelings, and ensure the move will not affect them negatively; kids need reassurances from adults, and to be brought into the excitement of the move.

Here are four tips that can help kids adjust to a move, and overcome moving anxiety.

1. Get your kids to participate in the house hunting and moving preparations, so they feel part of the decision making, they will feel more empowered and in control of the situation. Let them help with looking at new housing possibilities, packing, and deciding which toys go to charity.

2. Introduce them to the new neighborhood. Visiting the new neighborhood in advance, and doing some things they may enjoy, will help them see the positive side of moving and mitigate some of the moving stress.  Making some new memories at the new playground, visiting the new school, finding  the best ice-cream in the new neighborhood, and other adventures, will help your kids have something to look forward to as they help with the moving process. If you are moving out of town, you can search the new neighborhood on Google maps street view to get a feel for it.

3. Help your children get accustomed to your new home. If visiting the new home is not possible, show them some ideas of what their room could look like. Discuss where their things will go; if you plan on repainting the new home, involve them in choosing the color.  Discuss the benefits of the new home, if it’s larger, has a bigger yard, or is closer to fun activities. Go see it a couple times before you move if possible.

4. Hire a reliable mover!  This one is easy; moving with a reliable company will help take some of the stress out of the moving process for you, and your children.  From helping plan your move, to expert packing services, to reliably moving you across town or across country, Peachtree Movers will be there for you to help save time, reduce anxiety, and guide you through the moving process to free up some of your time so you can be there for the ones that need you most.

Tips For Organizing Your Moving Day

Peachtree Movers have helped hundreds of people in Atlanta move, and one thing we've learned is being organized pays off! We recommend you give yourself at least 2 months to plan and prepare your move.
Here are a few tips on how to organize your move to keep it stress free.

Schedule your move in advance

Plan ahead and you may get a better moving rate from your mover of choice. Our advice would be to book your moving day at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance.

Keep everything organized!

Get a binder or a folder on your computers desktop to keep everything move-related: phone numbers, estimates, receipts, utility providers information for old and new home, to do lists, packing schedule and more!

Craig’s List, Ebay, or Yard Sale

Have a moving sale, or donate unwanted items. When moving day comes, you’ll be glad you did.

Utility Companies
Contact utility companies in advance so you don’t have to worry about them as moving day gets closer.  Plus, it’s nice you have running water, electricity, heating, and cable working when you move in.

Start packing two weeks in advance

Unless you hire professional packers (Like Peachtree), it’s best to start your packing a couple of weeks in advance. Start with your least used items first. Label all your boxes to make it so much easier when you unpack.

Pack essentials lasts

This one seems obvious but when you get to your new home, you’ll be able to function off your “essentials” boxes for quite a bit, if you don’t get the chance to unpack right away.

Five Tips When Moving With Pets

Peachtree Movers knows you have a long to-do list to complete before moving, if pets are on the list we have a few tips to help make the move less stressful for you and your pets.

1. Gather Your Pet’s Records
If you are moving far or near from your current home, it’s always important to have your current veterinarian records. These can usually be printed out and faxed to you or to the new vet.

2. Update Tags With Your New Address
This one is easy; update your pet's tags with proper identification including up-to-date contact information and your new home's address. Pets have been known to wonder when moved to a new neighborhood so this one is important.

3. Manage Your Pets Stress Exposure
Studies show that pets can get stressed out during moves, so Peachtree movers suggests keeping them secluded from the action that can ensue on moving day. This means keeping them in a separate and familiar room or even asking a friend or family member to watch over them while we pack and move your home. If you're keeping your pet in the house while movers are present, make sure they are in a room that has already been cleared out and maybe even post a do-not-disturb sign.

4. Remember Pet Meds and Pets First Aid Kit
When packing for you move be sure to leave medications and food outside of moving boxes. If your pet is on medications, be sure to get them filled before relocating. When preparing your first aid kit, be sure to include bandages, towels and hydrogen peroxide.

5. When Traveling Protect Your Pets
If you are transporting your pet to your new home by car, be sure to use a pet carrier, as allowing them to sit in the passenger seat can be dangerous and unsafe for both of you (although cute). Pets can be a distraction when behind the wheel so a pet carrier in the backseat can help keep them calm. When flying, be sure to check with the airline so your equipment meets all necessary airline requirements.

Need An Accurate Moving Estimate in Atlanta? Peachtree Can Help.

Want An Accurate Moving Estimate in Atlanta? Here’s How.
Getting an accurate moving estimate is the first step to a problem free move. However it requires a little time investment on your part, but in the end, it’s worth it.  No surprises make for a relaxed moving day.

Here’s a list of the things Peachtree Movers need to accurately estimate the cost of your move:

Moving date

An exact moving date is the best way for us to check truck and crew availability. If you’re moving date is flexible,  it’s a bit easier schedule (sometimes with a better rate), if it’s not remember to book in advance, especially if you are booking a day that’s during prime moving season, a weekend or a holiday.

The size of your home
This one is easy, how big is your home?  Don’t forget basements, crawl spaces, attics, garages, sheds, etc, for a more accurate estimate of the belongings that will need to be moved. Last thing, let us know the number of stories your home has.

Move logistics

Let us know if our moving truck cannot be parked directly in front of your house or apartment, the longer our walk is from the truck to your place the more time the move will take.  Also, if you are planning on doing all the packing, or moving packed boxes to an easily accessible garage, as this will help speed things up and lower the cost of the move.

Packing and crating

If you are going to do all the packing, or if you want help, let us know when your book your move, this way we can adjust your quote as necessary.

Oversized/fragile items

Any items that are oversized like pool tables, oversized furniture, or pianos require special considerations when moving. Let us know ahead of time and we can give you an accurate quote.

When you hire Peachtree Movers, you hire an experienced mover that asks the right questions to make your quote as accurate as possible.
